Law enforcement all over America has demonstrated a lack of respect and value for certain members of society. Therefore, as a clear reminder that law enforcement respect and value all, I suggest renaming the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) headquarters as a stern message to all 17,985 police agencies of America.
My first choice for renaming SFPD headquarters would be in honor of George P. Floyd, a Black man that did not need to die under the control of Minneapolis police. I do not have access to the Floyd family. Therefore, I am reaching out to his family here, on my prison reform website. But with full understanding, this offer to honor Mr. Floyd is subject to the approval of his estate.
Unfortunately, there are too many candidates to choose from. And in no way am I suggesting Mr. Floyd is the only victim of police brutality who should be honored in this manner. But a strong message from a victim of police disrespect is needed to remind law enforcement that a major part of their job is to respect.
